Chinese vendor predicts 2018 commercial launch for ultrafast wireless networking tech.
Huawei claims to have successfully tested 10Gbps WiFi technology in its lab in Shenzhen, China.
That speed is 10 times faster than that promised by the latest generation of commercial WiFi tech, which is based on the IEEE's 802.11ac standard and is only just beginning to be incorporated into connected devices.
Huawei's test, the results of which were announced last week, saw a prototype device achieve a peak throughput of 10.53Gbps using an unspecified amount of spectrum in the 5 GHz band. The technology tested by Huawei will contribute towards the development of 802.11ax, the successor to 802.11ac.
"Huawei believes that ultrafast WiFi could become commercially available from 2018 pending the agreement of global standards requirements and sufficient chipset availability," predicted the vendor, in a statement.
In addition, Osama Aboul-Magd, who carries out R&D at Huawei, currently chairs the IEEE 802.11ac task group and in May was elected as the chair of the 802.11ax task group as well.
"Huawei continues to actively promote and invest in the research and development of advanced technologies for WiFi and is recognised as a leading contributor to the development of next generation WiFi standards," said Huawei.

What motivates us as Students, Employees and Individuals? (Book by Edward L. Deci)
If you reward your children for doing their homework, they will usually respond by getting it done. But is this the most effective method of motivation? No, says psychologist Edward L. Deci, who challenges traditional thinking and shows that this method actually works against performance. The best way to motivate people—at school, at work, or at home—is to support their sense of autonomy. Explaining the reasons why a task is important and then allowing as much personal freedom as possible in carrying out the task will stimulate interest and commitment, and is a much more effective approach than the standard system of reward and punishment. We are all inherently interested in the world, argues Deci,
so why not nurture that interest in each other?
Instead of asking, "How can I motivate people?" we should be asking, "How can I create the conditions within
which people will motivate themselves?"
